Scientist Training Program

The Austin Energy Regional Science Festival offers an inclusive Scientist Training Program. The Program broadens participation to students who otherwise might not qualify.

Who Can Participate?
The Scientist Training Program welcomes students for whom certain requirements present a challenge. While the associated paperwork is less complex, “trainee” scientists still follow a set of modified rules and processes.

We encourage participation in both the Elementary and Junior/Senior divisions by individuals, teams, and (up to third grade) whole classes:
non-essential From schools just now initiating science fair programs
non-essential With physical, learning, language, and other differences

Coordinators may seek input from teachers, counselors, judges, and others when deciding whether or not to enter students.

Students participating in the Scientist Training Program do not advance to state and international competitions.

Teacher Training
Science Festival offers “by-request” orientation sessions for teachers, parents, and others helping Scientist Training Program students. These sessions offer step-by-step, user-friendly guidance to those helping students research, develop, and prepare projects.
